Framed
Framed is a curated journey through the creative side of Margaret River, where wine meets art in all its forms. This itinerary takes you to wineries and galleries that showcase a deep connection to local creativity. From curated exhibitions and sculpture walks to cellar doors that double as art spaces, this itinerary is perfect for those who want to sip, wander, and be inspired.
It’s good to note that the region’s art scene is always evolving, with new exhibitions, installations, and events popping up throughout the year. Highlights like Margaret River Region Open Studios (held each spring) offer a rare chance to meet local artists in their workspaces and see creativity in action. And beyond this itinerary, there are many more artists and galleries worth visiting. You can explore a comprehensive list here and here.
1
Yallingup Gallery
Your journey begins at Yallingup Galleries, a light-filled gallery nestled in the forest just off Caves Road. Showcasing a curated selection of contemporary Australian art, the space features everything from painting and sculpture to fine woodwork and glass. It's a peaceful and inspiring way to ease into the day, surrounded by creativity and natural beauty. If you're visiting on a weekend, you can enjoy your first wine tasting right here with Vallée du Venom — an urban micro winery offering minimal-intervention wines, poured from their cosy setup within the gallery grounds.
2
Yallingup Aboriginal Art
From contemporary to deeply cultural, your next stop is Yallingup Aboriginal Art, a gallery dedicated to showcasing authentic Indigenous Australian art. Featuring works from both established and emerging artists, the space is rich in storytelling, symbolism, and cultural significance. Each piece offers a deeper connection to Country and the First Nations people of Australia. It’s a grounding and powerful experience that adds depth and heart to your journey through Margaret River’s creative landscape.
3
Cherubino
Next, we visit Cherubino Wines, where the cellar door is as striking as the wines themselves. Thoughtfully designed, the space which used to be the old barrel room, creates a calm and elegant atmosphere for tasting. Alongside their beautiful wines, you’ll find rotating exhibitions by Linton & Kay Galleries, adding a refined artistic layer to the experience.
4
Vasse Felix
If you're ready for lunch, the Vasse Felix Restaurant offers both à la carte and set menus, highlighting fresh, local ingredients in a refined, vineyard setting. Prefer something more relaxed and quicker so you can fit in another gallery stop? Head to the Wine Lounge for a grazing board and a glass of wine. Take time to explore the on-site art gallery, housed in the original winery building, which features a rotating seasonal program of contemporary Australian works. Guests can also book a range of experiences from guided estate tours to the immersive Cellar Experience, offering a deeper look into Vasse Felix’s winemaking philosophy and rich history.
5
Leeuwin Estate
Our last stop of the day is Leeuwin Estate, one of the landmark wineries of the region and a true celebration of art, architecture, and wine. Famous for its Art Series wines, Leeuwin integrates visual art into every part of the experience. Their art gallery is open daily to the public and here you can have your first tasting of the day. We highly recommend the Art Series range, especially the Chardonnay, Australia's most collected wine.
