When people think of Margaret River, the first images that often come to mind are rolling vineyards, rugged coastlines, the surf scene and long-table lunches. And while those things are part of the region’s magic, there’s another layer to discover here. One that speaks to the heart as much as the senses: ART.
Art has always had the power to invite us to look closer, and see the world from a new perspective. That’s exactly what inspired our Oak Recommends itinerary, Framed. It’s about taking time to experience creativity, whether through photography, sculpture, pottery, jewelery or paintings that carry a little piece of the region’s spirit within them.
Right now, Margaret River Region Open Studios is bringing that idea to life in the most exciting way. Over two weeks, from the 13th to the 28th of September, local artists open their doors and welcome you in; not just to view their finished work, but to step into the creative process itself. There’s something special about meeting the person behind the brushstroke, the texture, or the colour. It makes the art you take home feel even more personal, because you’ve shared a moment in the space where it was born.
For me, art is also personal because it’s part of my own circle of friends. My dear friend, Tatiana Amaral, is one of the talented artists whose work is part of this vibrant scene. Her pieces, now on exhibit and available at Yallingup Galleries, are filled with expression and emotion. Tatiana has a gift for capturing both strength and delicacy on canvas, creating works that feel alive with movement and meaning. Supporting her isn’t just about celebrating a friend. It’s about sharing an artist whose vision truly enriches the cultural fabric of the region and its nature.
So, if you’re visiting the south west, I encourage you to make art part of your journey. Wander through an open studio, linger a little longer in a gallery, and let yourself be surprised by what speaks to you. And if you’re curious to explore this side of Margaret River with us, our Framed itinerary is designed to guide you through some of the best places to experience art, creativity, and inspiration.
Because in the end, Margaret River isn’t just framed by nature. It’s framed by creativity. And that’s something worth slowing down for.
