If you’ve ever seen photos of Margaret River’s rugged coastline and wondered where they were taken, there’s a good chance they came from the Cape to Cape Track. Stretching 123 km from Cape Naturaliste in the north to Cape Leeuwin in the south, this world-class walk is on many hikers’ bucket lists. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to walk the whole thing to experience its magic.
For many visitors, a half-day or day walk is the perfect way to take in the track’s most breathtaking sections, without the blisters or the big backpacks. That’s where a little local knowledge (and the right transport) makes all the difference.
Why Short Sections are Perfect
Less time, more beauty | choose the highlights and skip the long stretches.
Accessible for all fitness levels | enjoy the scenery without overdoing it.
Ans most important, more time for wine pair your walk with a winery lunch or tasting.
Our Favourite Day & Half-Day Walks
1. Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse to Sugarloaf Rock | A gentle, well-maintained path with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and dramatic limestone cliffs. Keep your eyes peeled for whales in season (June–November).
2. Smiths Beach to Injidup Natural Spa | Golden sands, turquoise water, and the natural rock “spa” where waves bubble into a granite pool. Perfect spot for photos.
3. Redgate Beach to Boranup Forest Edge | This one gives you a little bit of everything: coastal views, wildflowers in spring, and the chance to finish among towering karri trees.
Best Time to Walk
Spring (September to November) brings wildflowers and migrating whales, while autumn offers cooler weather and calm seas. I
Making It Easy
One of the trickiest things about walking just part of the Cape to Cape is figuring out how to get back to your starting point. That’s where we come in. We can even add in a winery or brewery stop after, since nothing says “reward” like a glass of Margaret River Chardonnay.
And if you’re feeling more adventurous — maybe you’d like to tackle the entire 123 km track or walk with an experienced local guide — there are some fantastic operators in the region who specialise in these experiences. From fully guided day walks to multi-day adventures with accommodation and meals included, they make it easy to immerse yourself in every step. We’re always happy to point you in the right direction if that’s the journey you’re after.
